It's Time to Break Camp and Move On!

Do you feel stuck in a particular area of your life? Maybe you feel stuck spiritually, stuck in your feelings, stuck in the past, or in a situation far from where you truly want to be. It’s as if you’re camped out in front of a mountain with no way around it. I was there more than 15 years ago. It’s a hard place to be. God used Deuteronomy 1:6-7 to speak to me in that season and get me going. Today, I want to share the same verses with you, along with a few details from my own personal story.
“When we were at Mount Sinai, the Lord our God said to us, ‘You have stayed at this mountain long enough. It is time to break camp and move on” Deuteronomy 1:6-7.
It was more than a decade ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I was sitting in the treatment area of a medical center, reading my Bible, when this scripture in Deuteronomy leaped off the page and resounded in my spirit. It spoke to me so loudly that I literally looked around the room to see if anyone else nearby heard it. During this time, my husband Michael and I had been stuck in our own personal wilderness for almost five years.

Our marriage was fine, but financially, we were trying to recover from the collapse of the economy and the loss of most of our possessions, including our luxury car and our first home. Sadly, it was all because we didn’t listen to God’s instructions the year prior. Now here we were, stuck—at the base of a mountain, living in a cramped apartment that seemed to get smaller as we grew more and more frustrated. Each year, it felt as if we were walking around the same mountain over and over again—getting nowhere! My “auto response” during this time was that we were waiting on God—not realizing that there was some preparation that we needed to do.
Prior to God speaking to me in the doctor’s office, we had started crying out to Him fervently about our situation. I knew right away that God was responding to our prayers and it was finally time for us to move forward with our desire to purchase another home. It wasn’t until God spoke that I realized something—we weren’t even prepared to move! We had no down payment saved. Thankfully in a short period of time, we saved some funds, and we were able to close on our next home. From the time God spoke to the time we moved was approximately 18 months. However, had we prepared sooner, we undoubtedly could have moved sooner.
If you’ve been crying out to God about feeling stuck in your situation, I believe the Lord is saying, “You have stayed at this mountain long enough. It is time to break camp and move on.” The base of the mountain was never intended to be your permanent residence. It’s a place of reflection, healing, and preparation. Prepare yourself, start packing, and start moving.
Do you have to move? No. It will always be your choice, but just know that He is calling you deeper…further…higher. You will not walk into His purpose for your life unless you MOVE when He says MOVE.
Time is short. It’s time to get GOing!
